Get Paid for Extra Work: T&M Tickets and Change Orders From Your Phone
It happens on every job. You're halfway through, and the GC's super — or the homeowner — walks over: “while you're here, can you also close up that hallway? And patch where the electrician cut holes?” You say yes, your crew spends two days on it, and none of it is in the contract.
In the trades this extra work gets billed as T&M — time and materials — and formalized as a change order. The problem is the paperwork: the request was verbal, the ticket is a carbon copy in the truck (or never written), and three weeks later the person who said “yes” doesn't remember saying it. Subcontractors routinely fail to collect 10–30% of the extra work they perform. That's not an admin problem — that's payroll walking out the door.

Writing a signed extra-work ticket, step by step
Open a new ticket
Go to the Tickets tab and tap +. Name the job, and note who's authorizing the work — the GC, the super, or the homeowner.
Photograph and dictate
Snap a couple of photos of the area — they're stored with the ticket as evidence. Then tap Dictate and say what was asked for and what you did: “close up hallway wall and patch electrician holes, two guys, about two days, roughly 40 sheets.” The transcription happens on your phone.
Add time and materials
Add a Labor line (hours × rate) and Material lines (quantity × price). The total updates as you type — this is the number the signer approves.
Hand them your phone to sign
Tap Review & Sign. The signer sees the description and total, then signs with a finger on your screen — nothing to install on their side. The ticket locks (that's what makes it evidence) and a one-page PDF is generated on the spot, with the photos, the line items, and the signature.
Bill it before it goes stale
Share the PDF right away so it's on the record. The Tickets tab keeps a running Outstanding total and tracks every ticket from signed to invoiced to paid — and BeaverPlot nudges you if a signed ticket sits unbilled for three days, or an invoice goes unpaid for two weeks.
Why the signature matters
A change order dispute is rarely about whether the work was done — it's about whether it was authorized. A dated, signed ticket with photos answers that question before it's asked. Once signed, a ticket in BeaverPlot can't be edited — only its billing status moves — so the document the signer approved is exactly the document you invoice against.
